Our hair transplant clinic specialises in a range of evidence-based hair restoration techniques, including various types of hair loss surgery.
Hair loss surgery is the process of transferring healthy hair follicles from the patient’s own permanent areas of the scalp to the non-permanent areas. In the case of pattern baldness (the most common type of hair loss), this will typically mean transferring follicles from the back and sides of the head to the crown and the front of the head – where hair loss has occurred.
We offer various surgical hair restoration techniques, allowing us to select the most appropriate and effective method for your particular hair characteristics and goals. Although involving similar processes, each technique uses different methods to harvest the follicular unit grafts (the donor hair). Here’s a closer look at the techniques we offer:
Follicular Unit Transplant technique (FUT): FUT involves removing a strip of skin from a donor area. This donor area is where the hair is programmed to be permanent and grow for life, usually towards the back of the head. The hair follicles are then harvested from this strip of skin (referred to as ‘hair grafts’) and inserted into tiny incisions in the area of hair loss. Following this, the donor area is stitched up, leaving a linear scar that can be concealed with slightly longer hair.
Follicular Unit Extraction technique (FUE): FUE is similar to FUT, but instead of removing a strip of skin from a permanent area of the scalp, it involves extracting individual hair follicles directly. These individual donor follicles are then placed into the targeted area through tiny incisions in the scalp. FUE may leave tiny dot scars from hair follicle extraction, but these are generally not noticeable unless the hair is worn very short.
