What happens after I submit my online consultation form?

If Dr Ball feels that surgery is an appropriate option for you:

• You will receive an email to arrange an in-person consultation with Dr Ball at our Portsmouth clinic. The cost for your medical consultation is £150.
• This assessment is an essential part of the process, as it allows us to thoroughly assess your hair loss, and create a personalised surgical treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and long-term goals.
• This also provides an opportunity to answer any questions you may have about the procedure and expected outcomes.

If non-surgical treatments are recommended:

• We will explain the alternative treatment options via email, detailing why they may be better suited for your current situation.
• Non-surgical treatments are often ideal for early-stage hair loss or stabilising your condition before considering surgery.

For younger patients, those with diffuse thinning, or recent hair loss:

• We may recommend a consultation at our Portsmouth clinic with Marta Teixeira, our trichologist nurse prescriber and specialist in non-surgical hair loss management, for a thorough assessment and treatment plan. There is a fee of £150 for an in-person consultation (up to 60 minutes) and £75 for a remote consultation (30 minutes). Please not that remote consultations are not recommended for female patients who need to have a diagnosis of their hair loss.
• This is ideal if surgery isn’t suitable but you’re looking to preserve and improve your hair and scalp health.

Long-term planning at The Maitland Clinic

At The Maitland Clinic, we take long-term planning of surgical hair restoration very seriously. As hair loss is progressive in most cases, the need to prevent further hair loss is essential. Therefore, it is unlikely that we would recommend surgery as an option for male patients under the age of 27 unless their hair loss has been stabilised using non-surgical treatments.
